Chinese patients infected with COVID-19 are struggling with rising medical costs as government-backed health insurance plans cut coverage for COVID-19 treatments in the face of an unprecedented wave of infections sweeping the country.

According to local government announcements, at least 14 provinces and cities in China have stopped providing full-fee free COVID-19 treatment after Beijing abruptly canceled the “clearing” epidemic prevention policy last month. For three years, Chinese patients have received government-subsidized COVID-19 treatment.
