UK universities seek to reduce reliance on Chinese students

Universities in the UK are seeking to attract more overseas students from outside China amid concerns over political tensions and an overreliance on the Chinese market for income.

Last year, for the first time, more Indian students went to study in the UK than Chinese students, according to the Home Office.

The data shows that in the year ending September 2022, 127,731 student visas were issued to Indian citizens, while 116,476 student visas were issued to Chinese nationals, who for many years constituted the largest group of overseas enrollments in British universities.
